About Janie Van Komen

Janie Buchanan was raised in Garland, Utah and graduated from Bear River High School. She attended LDS Business College and Southern Utah University. In 1971 she married Robert Van Komen in the Logan Temple in Logan, Utah.

For 12 years lived in the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon. Mother of 10 children and 27 grandchildren, Janie now lives in West Point, Utah.

Church Service

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints:
She has been a Relief Society President, a Young Women's President and served in every position in both organizations except for secretary. For 11 years she taught Gospel Docterine and the Marriage and Family Relations classes. Janie currently serves in the Relief Society presidency for the third time.

Professional Highlights

During the Utah Centennial celebration, her essay about living in Utah appeared in The Faces of Utah book.

Janie co-authored the books Beyond Beauty, a cosmetology business resource book, and Reflections of Garland, a history of Garland, Utah.

Her stories appear in The Magic and Miracle of Christmas Vol. 1 & 2 and Hearts and Hands.

Her short story Snow Angels has been published in greeting card format.

Janie also serves on the Board of Directors for LatterDayAuthors.com.

Janie is a sponsor and co-host of Writers at the Rivers Edge Retreat in Idaho.

She teaches people how to use a specific form of writing to alleviate stress called The Write Stress Relief.

Janie and author, Lyn Austin, created a virtual concept for women of all walks of life called The New Reality is... Finding Shoes that Don't Hurt Your Feet.

She is at least a decade into extensive research on history in the Netherlands. Janie will publish a historical fiction novel based on her findings soon.

And after eight years of working together, Janie Van Komen and renown artist, Jean Keaton, published a children's book called Sarah Jane's Very Best Story Ever; a true story that teaches us the plan of our Heavenly Father.

Janie is also very busy working on her next big book about managing time. She, with the help of best selling authors Robert Allen and Richard Paul Evans, will reveal the secrets to Stopping Time. Look for this new release soon!
