Janie edited a professional newsletter/magazine for five years.
Janie wrote a regular column (Unknown Sewer) for Sew Art International for six years.
She did professional research and technical writing 1984-1992.
In 1987 Sew Art International bestowed her as foremost authority on machine made Battenberg Lace and Battenberg Lace History.
In 1987 Janie consulted with Wm Barton Buck Editor of Lace and Crafts Quarterly and Professor of European Studies at a University in Florida. She gave him the information to break the secret of the origin of Battenberg Lace for him to publish. An article later appeared in the Premier issue of Lace and Crafts Quarterly Winter 1987, using all the information she gave him. He sent her a copy of the magazine. Unfortunately he did not give her any credit for the information.

* She and husband, Robert, are the proud parents of 10 children; eight spouses; 37 grandchildren.
Together they've survived death, near death, flood, extreme wealth, bankruptcy, eviction, serious illnesses, invasions of snakes, mice, and even a skunk, every kid problem imaginable, and several very serious accidents.
Since Robert is native to the Netherlands and part-time gourmet chef they have traveled Europe extensively spending much time doing research and writing about Holland and food.
